SIMORGH’s education
department is based on the premise that values learnt in childhood
play a crucial role in forming the adult mind. Given the increasing
violence and growing intolerance towards the human rights of others,
work undertaken by the education department is a step towards
building an awareness of a child or young adult’s individual
and community or group rights and responsibilities.
The Simorgh School Text
Book Project produces Kaleidoscope primers which address issues
of our right to life, safety, food, health, education, etc. Designed
to capture the interest of the child so that she or he can understand
the concept of human rights, they actively involve children in
developing their learning and thinking processes.
The teaching methodology
is participatory and entails discussions and group work with the
children. Data identification and logic are the tools used to
teach children to identify problems and seek possible solutions.
Each primer is accompanied
by a Teacher's Guide. The purpose of the Guide is to inspire the
teachers to include and use parallel material on given themes
and base exercises on the format already given in the primers.
